Fans may have noticed Curtis Brigham cornering fighters at previous Canadian Fighting Championship events. Brigham, the Winnipeg Academy of Mixed Martial Arts founder and head coach, has been instrumental in the success of WAMMA fighters like Eric Perez, Dominick Blais, Roland Delorme and many others. Now, after a six year layoff, fans will have a chance to see Brigham at CFC 6.

Brigham started fighting in 1999 and had a 9-5 record spanning a five year fight career that had Curtis fighting all over the globe. However, in 2004, Brigham seemingly hung up the gloves as an undersized fighter in an unpopular sport. That all changed in the past six years. Everyone is aware of the UFC skyrocketing to popularity thanks to success of The Ultimate Fighter. The WEC also came around and made celebrities out of smaller fighters like Urijah Faber.

Now fans will be able to see WAMMA’s ‘Boss’ fight on October 8th. Brigham, who has fought in Japan and all over the USA and Canada, has faced tough opposition over his career. The submission specialist has beaten future Bellator fighter Brian Green in 2003. Brigham also took a much larger, future UFC Lightweight champion Sean Sherk into the third round of a fight.

Tickets to see Curtis Brigham and his WAMMA students Eric Perez, Dominick Blais, and Roland Delorme are now available at Ticketmaster. Need a better sightline to the action? Please call 772-2599 to make your VIP table arrangements.

Munduruca Out

At the same time as the exciting Brigham announcement, the CFC must also acknowledge at this time that Rodrigo Munduruca has pulled out of his CFC 6 fight due to injury. Although Rodrigo will be missed, Brigham is a fantastic replacement of one submission specialist with another. Brigham has won all nine of his victories by submission. Brigham is not one to leave decisions in the judges’ hands.

Brigham’s opponent can not be announced at this time. Make sure you stay tuned to canadianfighting.com for all the CFC 6 card updates.

Although the fights are two months away, the Canadian Fighting Championship team has been working hard through the hot summer to line up an exciting fight card for October 8th. CFC decided to listen to our fans and bring in your local favorites, so the ‘Perez Dispenser’ Eric Perez and Rod Munduruca along with many others will be fighting on this card.

Eric Perez has thrilled Winnipeg fight fans in four CFC fights already. Who can forget the three wars Perez had with Dean Lewis, Dimitri Waardenburg, and Ben Nguyen in 2009? Now Perez will be fighting Canada’s seventh ranked Bantamweight – Remi Morvan. Morvan is a 6-4 fighter who will bring the best out of Winnipeg’s most exciting fighter, Eric Perez.

Rodrigo Munduruca is a member of Team Canada who recently won gold in the International Masters Tournament in Brazil. A world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete, Munduruca has a deadly combination of size and bjj skill. That has translated into a 6-1 MMA record for the big man. Munduruca is coming off a loss at CFC 3 to Dan Christison and will be looking to return to his winning ways in front of his hometown crowd. Look for his opponent and the rest of the lineup to be named in the coming weeks right here at CanadianFighting.com.

Get your tickets now for CFC 6 at Ticketmaster or call 772-2599 to make your VIP table arrangements.

The Score

The rebroadcast of CFC 5 was well received by our national TV audience. The fights were so popular that they will be broadcast once again by our television partner The Score. Look for CFC 5 to be replayed on The Score in early September. Check your local TV listings so you can watch Joe Doerksen, Eric Perez, Roland Delorme and the rest of the CFC 5 fighters!

El Dirte at UFC 119

Winnipeg fight fans should make sure to tune into Spike TV on September 25 to see the Canadian Fighting Center’s Joe Doerksen at UFC 119. Joe did us proud when he was the only Canadian out of seven to win at UFC 113 when he submitted Tom Lawlor. Now it is time to cheer him on again when he takes on The Ultimate Fighter 7 finalist CB Dollaway in Indianapolis, Indiana.

There is less than a week before CFC 5 and fans are excited to see one of Canada’s top promotions live on June 4th. With no MMA in Manitoba the past few months, fans are anxiously awaiting the chance to see the best fighters that Manitoba has to offer including Joe Doerksen.

Joe Doerksen is coming off his victory of Tom Lawlor at UFC 113. Doerksen submitted Lawlor in the second round and was the only Canadian out of seven to win in UFC Montreal this year. Incredibly, the UFC has allowed Doerksen to honor is agreement to fight on CFC 5 and fans will be the ones to benefit. Doerksen will be taking on Shawn Marchand in the main event. Marchand is an up and coming Canadian fighter who already is the Middleweight champion from a maritime promotion. Doerksen should not overlook this Ontario fighter as Marchand has not lost since 2007 and is looking at this fight as his opportunity to knock off a UFC veteran.

Not only will Doerksen be fighting in his hometown, but “Fight of the Night” Eric Perez will be in the Semi-Main Event of CFC 5. Perez has been victorious in the three CFC fights that he has appeared in and he has also walked away with a Fight of the Night performance on each occasion. “I like a war,” says Eric Perez, “I want this one to go three rounds and I knock him out late in the third.” Perez is not the only one who likes to put on a show. Former Ballroom Zombies singer, Robin Black is no stranger to entertaining fans. Black is coming back to Winnipeg to challenge Perez in a fantastic Bantamweight matchup.

In another battle of Bantamweights, Winnipeg’s Roland Delorme will put his undefeated record on the line against Regina’s Sean Quinn. This fight has not received as much attention as the previous mentioned fights, but, rest assured, this one has Fight of the Night written all over it. This is a battle between two nationally ranked fighters in their weight division. Delorme has come off two consecutive victories over Remi Morvan – the last one at CFC 4. Quinn is a tough fighter who has also appeared in the Canadian Fighting Championship. Quinn took out the tough Francois Lacombe at CFC 3 last year. Expect big things from these two fighters!

Fan favorite Lance Cartwright will also be returning to the Steel Circle. The Snake is fresh off his supporting actor appearance in the prison-based action movie “Locked Down” and promises to bring his crowd-pleasing brand of MMA back to the CFC. He will be facing Steve Skinner, who like the previously mentioned Marchand and Black, is an MMA champion of a Moncton promotion. The Snake will have his hands full on June 5th.

Fans can purchase tickets to see Joe Doerksen, Robin Black, Eric Perez and the rest of the CFC 5 fighters this Friday, June 4th for as little as $40. You can get VIP seats by calling 772-2599 or General Admission through Ticketmaster.Remember that this event is now open to fans sixteen years old.

The rest of card will be just as entertaining with local Winnipeg fighters Dominick Blais, Mark Durant, Dwight Sutherland, and Agostino DeNatale returning to action. Ronson Sabourin and Travis Gervais will also make their hometown CFC debut.

Here is the full card for the event:

Main Event

Joe Doerksen vs Shawn Marchand

Semi-Main Event

Robin Black vs Eric Perez

Roland Delorme vs Sean Quinn

Lance Cartwright vs Steve Skinner

Dominick Blais vs Matt Spisak

Mark Durant vs Jesse Ronson

Dwight Sutherland vs Guillaume Fortier

Ronson Sabourin vs Chris Myra

After five consecutive wins in organizations such as Sengoku and the Canadian Fighting Championship, Winnipeg’s Joe Doerksen was signed by the UFC to fight at UFC 113 in Montreal. This was to be Doerksen’s second fight in less than a month. The result? El Dirte submitted Tom Lawlor in the second round of a very exciting fight that made the UFC 113 Pay Per View broadcast. In fact, Doerksen was the only Canadian out of seven to win at UFC 113!

With his sixth consecutive victory under his belt, his UFC win bonus in his bank account, and a freshly minted UFC contract, there is no way that Joe Doerksen will still headline CFC 5 on June 4th. Right?

WRONG!

Many are assuming that Doerksen has pulled out of the CFC 5 event. Let the Canadian Fighting Championship set the record straight – Joe Doerksen WILL be headlining CFC 5 against Shawn Marchand on June 4th.

As Joe Doerksen told Top MMA News Radio recently when asked if he was still fighting on CFC 5:

“Absolutely! The top three experiences as a fighter have been fighting in the UFC, fighting in Japan, and fighting in Winnipeg. Winnipeg’s my hometown…it’s my friends and family…I don’t know how to explain it…there’s no feeling like it and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

CFC fans should be honored that a warrior of Joe Doerksen’s calibre will be gracing the Steel Circle in Winnipeg. It is a very rare opportunity to see a fighter on the current UFC roster fight outside the UFC. Fans will have that chance on June 4th.

Why would Joe Doerksen take this local fight when he is also fighting for the biggest MMA promotion in the world?

Doerksen replies, “For me fighting in the CFC is different, but is just as big a deal for me as fighting in the UFC.”

Fans can purchase tickets to see Joe Doerksen fight live in his hometown by calling 772-2599 and through Ticketmaster.Remember that this event is now open to fans sixteen years old and older.

Last month, the Canadian Fighting Championship announced that Joe Doerksen would be headlining CFC 5 on June 4th. This is an amazing coup for the CFC as Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen will be fighting in Montreal in the UFC this weekend.

Doerksen will be taking on Tom Lawlor at UFC 113 in an exciting Middleweight matchup in the Octagon. He will then be coming back to face an undetermined opponent in the Steel Cage in Winnipeg whether he wins or loses in the UFC. Doersken told Top MMA News radio that he was asked “a couple days after defeating Chad Herrick in Detroit” to come fight as an injury replacement in the UFC. Doerksen, not wanting to miss the Winnipeg fight date, made sure that he would be able to fulfill his CFC obligations if he agreed to fight Lawlor.

CFC fans should make sure they cheer on El Dirte on UFC 113 and then purchase tickets for CFC 5. It is rare to be able to watch an active UFC fighter in any promotion outside the UFC. Winnipeg fans will have that chance on June 4th. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 772-2599 and through Ticketmaster.

The Canadian Fighting Championship is pleased to announce that fans aged aged 16 and up can now attend CFC 5.

Since buying the Steel Circle, the question that the Canadian Fighting Championship receives most is “Why can’t my son/daughter attend CFC because they are big MMA fans?” The answer has always been that the Winnipeg Convention Centre does not allow minors to attend fights. The CFC has been working hard trying to get the age limit lowered from 18 and we are proud to say that we have been able to get the Winnipeg Convention Centre to decrease the age limit to 16 years old.

So parents, bring your son or daughter and come out and watch UFC fighter Joe Doerksen, former Ballroom Zombie Robin Black, and Winnipeg fan favourite Eric Perez at CFC 5 on June 4.

Patrons are asked to bring identification as WCC staff will by checking ID to enforce the 16 year old age limit.

The Canadian Fighting Championship’s next card is February 26th at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Four of the ten main card fighters will enter the Steel Circle that night with undefeated records. When the night is over, will one of them taste defeat for the first time? To see these undefeated fighters in action, fans can purhase tables by calling (204) 772-2599. General admission tickets are also available at Ticketmaster.

One of those undefeated fighters is the Quebec’s John Makdessi. At 5-0, Makdessi is a fierce striker who has finished every fight he has been in prior to the third round. Makdessi, who trains with Georges St-Pierre, badly wants to be recognized as a top Canadian Lightweight fighter and he is taking on his toughest challenge yet at CFC 4 with opponent Lindsey Hawkes. Winnipeg’s Lindsey Hawkes is not only looking to knock Makdessi into the ranks of the defeated but knock him out. Hawkes (5-3) clobbered Joseph Latour at CFC 1 with a huge knee and he hopes to use his height and reach advantage to defeat the smaller Makdessi.

Roland Delorme is a Winnipeg fighter who defeated Stepane Denis at CFC 3. Rollly shocked the MMA world by heading to Ottawa last December where he submitted top Canadian Bantamweight Remi Morvan in his hometown. Morvan was the more experienced fighter and Delorme was a considerable underdog, yet the Winnipeg Academy of Mixed Martial Arts fighter surprised everyone with a first round submission win. The win improved Delorme’s record to 4-0. Now Morvan is heading across Canada to face Delorme in his hometown of Winnipeg. Morvan, who admittedly took Delorme a little lightly, fought the same week when his daughter was born. Now he has been focusing squarely on Delorme and looking for revenge.

Team Canada’s Justin Barnard is another Winnipeg fighter who is putting his perfect record on the line at CFC 4. Barnard is facing Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn in their February 26th fight. This will be a classic grappler versus striker matchup as Barnard likes to take his opponents down and ground and pound them. Meanwhile, Showtime will use his strong Muay Thai talents to try and knock Barnard’s head off with a big knee or, perhaps, a spinning back kick. Showtime is coming into the fight with some recent losses and needs to get a win over the up and coming Barnard to stay relevant in the Welterweight division. Barnard just wants another notch in his undefeated belt.

The fourth undefeated fighter on the main card of CFC 4 is Chase Degenhardt. Peguis First Nation’s Chris Stranger will be looking to knock the ‘0′ off of Chase Degenhardt’s record. Degenhardt fought last month and looked impressive in his most recent win in Edmonton. Stranger also looked dominating in his CFC 3 debut against Kris Lee. Stranger gave Lee a ground and pound beating and improved his record to 3-1-1 and will love to send Degenhardt home with his first loss on his resumé.

Tables for CFC 4 are nearly sold out. Make sure you call (204) 772-2599 to get your seats now or you will risk missing the best fighters in Canada risking their perfect records on February 26.
