CFC 6 Results

The Canadian Fighting Championship would like to thank our loyal fans for coming out on the long weekend and showing your support for MMA at CFC 6.  The card was easily the most exciting event that the CFC has put on.  From the first fight to the main event, people had something to cheer about.

Here are the results from the card:

Eric Perez defeats Remi Morvan by Unanimous Decision (30×27)
Perez showed off his solid ground skills and dominated on the feet to win the decision and keep his CFC record a perfect 5-0.

Eric Wilson defeats Roland Delorme by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Wilson used strong leg kicks that hurt Delorme and a strong leg lock-based ground game to win a Split Decision in the semi-main event. The unbeaten Wilson came from nowhere to defeat the #2 ranked Delorme and give Roland his first pro loss.

Chris Stranger submits Vanja Vojvodic by Triangle Choke in Round 1, 1:06
Peguis, Manitoba’s Chris Stranger always exciting stage entrance took a lot longer than his fight. Stranger improved to 2-1 at CFC events with a quick Triangle Choke. Submission of the Night by Stranger.

Curtis Demarce defeats Dominick Blais by Split Decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
Brandon’s Curtis Demarce and Winnipeg’s Dominick Blais put on the Fight of the Night. Both fighters kept it standing and Demarce won by Split Decision.

Brent Franczuz submits Dwight Sutherland by Rear Naked Choke in Round 1, 4:20
Brent Franczuz displayed a strong top game and eventually submitted Peguis’ Dwight Sutherland late in the first round.

Lindsey Hawkes submits Jesse Ronson by Rear Naked Choke in Round 1, 4:47
It was good to see Winnipeg’s Lindsey Hawkes get the win after losing to John Makdessi at CFC 4. Hawkes came back from a very hard body shot to take over the fight and give Ronson his first pro loss.

Igor Caetano defeats Dave Letourneau by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
A unanticipated split decision win by Caetano had the crowd booing as they thought his back-pedalling throughout the last two rounds was enough to give David Letourneau the win. Caetano clearly won the first round, but many had Letourneau winning the last two.

Lee Mein defeats Kyle Cardinal by KO in Round 1, 2:57
A very entertaining fight between two Heavyweights. Cardinal had the technique and Mein had the power. Just when Cardinal thought the bigger Mein was fading, he stuck out his chin and Mein nailed him. A big KO win.

Matt Veal defeats Alex Ferrer by KO in Round 1, 1:22
Matt Veal delivered the first KO of the Night with a nice combination that left Winnipeg’s Alex Ferrer on the canvas.

Luis Cepeda defeats Jeff Pimentel by TKO(Ground ‘n Pound) in Round 1, 1:45
Once Pimentel hit the canvas, Cepeda dominated with a big ground and pound attack that was stopped by the officials for the win. Cepeda moves to 2-1 at the CFC.

The CFC Fights Hunger

Support Winnipeg Harvest at CFC 6

One in five children in Winnipeg go hungry, according to a 2008 Manitoba Child and Family Poverty report, and the Canadian Fighting Championship wants to help out. Together with the Winnipeg Harvest, the CFC is asking its fans to bring a non-perishable food item to CFC 6 on Friday.  The CFC has a history of giving.  A portion of the proceeds from the last event went to Red Cross efforts in Haiti.  Now, CFC will support our local community through the Winnipeg Harvest.

“The Winnipeg Harvest assists over 40,000 people a month and the CFC wants to do our part!  Too often MMA is misrepresented as the lowest part of society,” states Canadian Fighting Championship president Giuseppe DeNatale, “and that cannot be farther from the truth.”

To help the CFC fight hunger, fans can bring a non-perishable food item to CFC 6 on Friday, October 8 or drop it off to 349 Wardlaw. Fans giving donations will be entered in a draw for a chance to win a free year of training at the Canadian Fitness/Fighting Center or a VIP table to CFC 7.

CFC 6 is this Friday, October 8th

The last chance to watch live MMA in Winnipeg in 2010 is this Friday, October 8th as the Canadian Fighting Championship will be at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Make sure you pick up your tickets at Ticketmaster or call (204)772-2599.

The exciting fight card features a main event, refereed by Herb Dean, between fan favorite Eric Perez and Remi Morvan. Eric Perez has quickly become the fighter people want to watch after fight of the night performances in three of his four CFC appearances. In those CFC performances, Perez has quickly risen to become a top Canadian fighter as he has gone 4-0 over the past year. Morvan will be Perez’ toughest opponent in years as Winnipeg’s Perez will look to stay unbeaten in the CFC Steel Circle.

Perez’ teammate, Roland Delorme is also on the card. The #2 ranked Canadian Bantamweight currently has a 6-0 record and has finished every opponent he has faced within two rounds. Fans should come out and watch Delorme while they still can before Delorme heads out of the Winnipeg MMA scene to take a step up to international competition. Delorme will be taking on undefeated Saskatoon fighter Eric Wilson at CFC 6.

Like Delorme, Brandon’s Curtis Demarce also will be looking to win his seventh consecutive fight. Demarce will be facing Winnipeg’s Dominick Blais who has won 6 of his last seven fights. These two experienced Lightweights always put on a show and rarely leave any of their fights in the hands of the judges.

Also appearing on the card are Peguis First Nation fighters Chris Stranger and Dwight Sutherland. The two aboriginal fighters exemplify the warrior spirit and are looking to take out their respective opponents. At CFC 4, Stranger fought a three round war with Chase Degenhardt that kept the fans standing for 15 minutes. At CFC 5, Dwight Sutherland was losing the first four minutes of his four minute and 8 second fight before remarkably coming from behind to finish his opponent with a slick submission.

A few tickets are still available for this action-packed card at Ticketmaster. Make sure you pick up a pair to see the above fighters and other hometown favorites including Lindsey Hawkes, Luis Cepeda, and Alex Ferrer.

Here is the entire fight card:

Main Event
Eric Perez vs Remi Morvan

Roland Delorme vs Eric Wilson
Dominick Blais vs Curtis Demarce
Chris Stranger vs Vanja Vojvodic
Dwight Sutherland vs Brent Franczuz
Lindsey Hawkes vs Jesse Ronson
Kyle Cardinal vs Lee Mein
David Letourneau vs Igor Caetano
Matt Veal vs Alex Ferrer
Luis Cepeda vs Jeff Pimental

The Canadian Fighting Championship would also like to remind fans to bring some cans of food for the Winnipeg Harvest. Fans can bring a non-perishable food item to the event or drop it off to 349 Wardlaw for a chance to win a free year of training at the Canadian Fitness/Fighting Center or a VIP table to a future CFC event.
